7th January 2016

Dear Parents/Carers

Term 3 – January 2016

On behalf of all staff at Canonbie Primary School I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year. We are already into our third term and whilst we have a quiet week this week our diary seems to be filling up rather quickly. To this end I have included a set of our diary dates up to and including our February In-Service. There are a few items on the list of diary dates which require further explanation:

Primary 1 Enrolments

As advertised in the local newspaper our enrolment for Primary 1 pupils is due to commence next week with enrolments taking place on Tuesday the 12th between 9am and 3.30pm and Wednesday the 13th between 9am and 11.30am. If these times do not suit please contact the school office to arrange a suitable alternative.

Management Team Drop-In Sessions – Tuesday 19th January and Tuesday 10th February 2016

I have arranged for two management team drop-in sessions to take place before the February break on Tuesday 19th January between 4 and 5pm and Tuesday 16th February between 9 and 10am. The purpose of these sessions is to discuss issues which relate to individual children or individual concerns, however if you have any issues please do not hesitate to contact me through the school office at any time. Please note these dates are not on the list of diary dates which are attached to this letter.

Parent Council Meeting – Tuesday 12th January at 6.15pm

Our next Parent Council meeting is due to take place next Tuesday in the P.4/5 classroom. An initial agenda has been put together which includes:

If you have any other items for the agenda please contact the school office on or before Monday 11th January 2016.

Staffing Update

Mrs Pringle our Additional Support for Learning Teacher will be absent for the start of our third term. I am sure you will join with me in wishing her well. For term 3 Mrs Andrea Brockley will cover for Mrs Pringle working all day on a Friday.

P.E. Kit Reminder

Pupils are asked to bring their P.E. kit back to school ready for P.E which will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday for most pupils. Mr Traill will continue to deliver badminton and team building activities on a Wednesday and on a Thursday. Pupils between P.3 and P.6 will benefit from rugby sessions which will be delivered by Langholm Rugby Club.

Extra Curricular Clubs

Hayley Powell, Active Schools Co-ordinator, has been busy organising a number of clubs for pupils across the cluster. Leaflets will be sent home with pupils after the Multi-Sport taster session for pupils this Friday. I will be in contact over the course of next week to confirm which clubs/activities will be offered to pupils by school staff.

Once again I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe, happy and prosperous New Year. I look forward to working with you in the coming year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office.

Yours sincerely

Miss Leona Wallace
