19th August 2016

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the staff at Canonbie Primary I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the new school session 2016/17. I hope everyone has had an enjoyable and restful holiday and are ready for the busy term ahead!

School Roll

This session we start with a roll of 67 pupils in the main school. This is a healthy number of children which ensures we maintain three classes yet we have a few spaces available should anyone move into the area.

Staffing 2016/17

Nursery – Miss Michelle Burn

P1/2/3 – Mrs Amy Johnstone

P4/5/6 – Mrs Gemma Tilley and Mrs Andrea Brockley

P6/7 – Mrs Kathryn Butler

Mr Traill will be in our school on Mondays and will take all the classes for P.E. The P4/5/6 class will have their lesson at 9.00a.m. so in order to save time please could this class come to school in their P.E. kits on this day and change into uniform afterwards.

P.E. Kit

Children are asked to bring a P.E. kit consisting of shorts and t-shirt along with suitable footwear to school. Parents may wish to send other items depending on the weather. This should be kept in school and will be sent home for washing at regular intervals.

School Uniform

Many thanks to all parents who continue to follow the uniform policy, if you require any further items please speak to Mrs Hall. Children are all looking very smart, particularly in their black footwear. Your support is very much appreciated.

Please can we remind you that all children’s clothing has their name written clearly on every item. We have an amount of unclaimed clothing and welcome parents to view our lost property box.

School Dinners

Menus are given out to the children on a Thursday for the following week, and should be returned to school by Monday morning with payment. School dinners cost £1.75 per day (£8.75 for whole week). The P1 to 3s continue to receive free school dinners.

Milk
Mid-morning milk is available at a cost of £1.00 per week. To order milk for the following week we must know by Thursday morning. (Please note once children say they wish to take milk it will be ordered every week, unless we are told otherwise.)

Water Bottles
Children are asked to bring a water bottle to school. Water bottles are pupils responsibility and these should be taken home to be washed and refilled on a daily basis.

Medication Consent
In order to ensure we have the most up-to-date information with regard to administering medication to children Mrs Hall our school secretary will shortly be contacting parents and arranging for new consent forms to be completed. (Parents of children in nursery please note this will be done during care plan completion.) Such processes are vital in ensuring the wellbeing of our children.

Trips within local area
As in previous sessions we will provide opportunities for children to participate in activities within the local area e.g. Visits to the church, P.E on the playing field, nature walks at playing field, etc. In order to make such visits possible please complete the attached consent form and return to school by Friday 26th August 2016.

Homework
Our regular weekly homework will begin Monday 29th August 2016. Please note pupils may be given homework before then but as a cluster the expectation is that homework will begin from that date. As a school we will continue to review our approach to homework during term 1.

After School Clubs

Most of the clubs will start next week – week beginning 22nd August and run for 8 weeks. Please see attached sheet with details and permission slips. Some of the clubs will be limited on numbers and places will be given on a first come first served basis.

If at anytime you have any questions or concerns regarding school routines or your child's progress please do not hesitate to contact the school to arrange an appointment.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Carol Wilson

Depute Headteacher
